July 2nd:  the 2nd Swift (see as well yesterday) is busy with getting the worst. Body-weights: the green Hooded Crow wasn’t measurable anymore > is too wild and too vivid; bluesilver was 326 (+4) gram. Barn Owls: red is diminishing more and more: 339 (-17), so we’re going to force-feed him again thrice a day. Green was 362 (-5) gram. We had to put down Swift 07-101 (June 18th ’07) due to remaining incapability to fly well enough. At the end of the morning one Dutch visitor.

Fires ease as PM vows to protect forests

Firefighters aided by wet weather

ALEXANDROS BELTES/ANA

A deer looks through the charred remains of the national forest on Mount Parnitha. It is thought that more than 100 deer were killed by the fire that swept through the forest last week. President Karolos Papoulias said that the fire on Parnitha and blazes in other parts of Greece were a cause for ‘national mourning.’

And while our successors to come were packed, with children and cats, and ready to take the train this evening to the airport, the busses in their town were on strike . . . .

July 3rd:  the yesterday released Swift 07-117 we discovered this morning at 5.10 laying in the street close to our house, where 5 minutes before nothing was on the ground . . . . Re-taken-in, but not booked. The bluesilver Hooded Crow was 388 (+12) gram. The red Barn Owl was 361 (+22) and green 366 (+4) gram. Little Owls: red 194 (-1), silver as well 194 (+4), orange 184 (=), blue also 184 (+4) and green as well 184 (+3) gram. Redred 185 (-1), silversilver 182 (+2) and blueblue 179 (-2) gram. Both trainees had risen early to help us for the hours to come !! So homage to this initiative !! At 9.43 a.m. a phone-call from Mytiléne from the vet Myrsíni Tourvalí about a young Pigeon > on our way to the air-port we’ll pick it up. At 11.24 a.m. we had a quite small juvenile COLLARED DOVE in our hands > see over there. And at 12.50 p.m. we made eye-contact with Runa & Ron and their 3 children Axel, Lara & Chalice. And at 8.27 p.m. a phone-call from a well-known woman from Mytiléne, that she had discovered under a tree in her garden 2 birds (fallen from the nest ??) with blue colors in the wing (Jay’s ??). We will be informed further about them.

HEAT WAVE VICTIMS

Death toll from recent hot weather rises to 15, Health Ministry says

Confusion fed forest blaze

PPC and fire service did not communicate when Parnitha fire began

July 4th:  all were still alive this morning. Body-weights: bluesilver Hooded Crow 338 (=), the red Barn Owl 360 (-1) and the green 366 (=). Little owls: red 198 (+4), silver 195 (+1), green 188 (+4), orange and blue both 185 and both (+1). Redred 185 (=), blueblue 182 (+3) and silversilver 181 (-1) gram. We have heard that both juvenile birds from Mytiléne will be brought this morning.

Release:

As a disabled was released at the garbage-dump in Kallonís the  Yellow-legged Gull (07-114) which was taken-in June 26th ’07.

At 12.08 p.m. arrived both announced birds from Mytiléne > see further at JAY. The bearer was showed-around as well. Hereafter 2 Dutch visitors. Meanwhile a phone-call from Switzerland where a woman tried to persuade us to find somewhere in Skála Kallonís a doggie (she had fallen in love with the doggie, but hadn’t taken it with her back home), to make de doggie ready for transport (injections, micro-chip etc) and send it to her by plane > we had to tell het that we have neither the time, nor the opportunity to do so. As well a phone-call from Thailand “if we could use volunteers for the weeks to come” > due to the present situation over here we had to transfer them to our colleague-hospital on Páros.

True extent of forest damage is revealed

Fire burns 4,200 hectares on Parnitha

SIMELA PANTZARTZI/ANA

A burnt sign welcomes visitors to the Mount Parnitha forest. The six-day blaze in the forest, seen as being crucial to Attica’s environment, was under control late yesterday, according to firefighters. Government officials promised to keep the national park free of building development.

At 8.45 a phone-call from Mytiléne about a gull with a broken wing > was brought to the Shell-Petrol-station where we could receive the bird at 10.15 p.m. See further at YELLOW-LEGGED GULL. And at 9.20 p.m. again a phone-call from the same town about an injured swallow > one will inform us later.

July 5th:  no victims this morning (except for ourselves !!). Bluesilver Hooded Crow 342 (+4) gram; red Barn Owl 363 (-1) and green 373 (+7) gram. Little Owls: red 197 (-1), silver 196 (+1), orange 188 (+3), green 187 (-1) and blue 185 (=) gram. Redred 187 (+2), blueblue 184 (+2) and silversilver 182 (+1) gram. Jays: orange 123 (+4) and silver 112 (+2) gram. Grandson Axel started today with taking all tortoises out of the fox-cage; to scrub them and to place them back in the tortoise-pen (where now a good place of shadow is created with an old piece of thick material, discovered on the local garbage-dump. All together 22 tortoises had survived. And before the first Greek Lesson was started, son-in-law Ron removed all the heads of nails in the 1st floor (room of the trainees and the hall) > within 2 weeks we must have over there floor-covering as well. At 9.44 we picked-up from the coach the bird one had phoned about yesterday evening > see at SWIFT. At 12.55 p.m. a phone-call from Athens, where someone would have our advices how to handle a, discovered on the ground, juvenile Collared Dove > the woman was perfectly served by Ineke !! At 1.24 p.m. a phone-call from Mytiléne about a young Swift: one is looking for good opportunities to get the bird as soon as possible here. And 8 minutes later a call from the same town about 2 juvenile Collared Doves: as well over here “the same recipe”, only the caller wanted to something by herself > so we’ll wait and see. At 1.57 p.m. a call from parakoila about an owlet, they had in possession already for one week > will be brought. At 3.03 p.m. a call from Eftaloú about a fox-cub they had > we went for a ride and picked it up. See at VIXEN. At 6.11 the announced LITTLE OWL (154 gram, orangeorange) was brought-in > see over there. At the evening-feeding-round we discovered that 1 tortoise had escaped the “washing- & scrubbing-session” by hiding himself > was done as well and placed together with the other ones. So the “score” is now 23 tortoises outside.

July 6th:  all were still alive this morning. Weights: bluesilver Hooded Crow 311 (-11) gram. Red Barn Owl 373 (+10), green 376 (+3) gram. The green will be transferred to the barn owl-cage in “The Keep” today. Little Owls: silver 205 (+9), red 199 (+2), orange 189 (+1), green 192 (+5) and blue 186 (+1) gram. Redred 189 (+2), blueblue 183 (+1) and silversilver 182 (=) gram. The new orangeorange was 155 (+1) gram. At 9.51 a.m. we “plucked” from the coach the yesterday announced SWIFT > see over there. At 10.50 a.m. a phone/call from Polichnítos about a cat with a fish/hook in the mouth : they will pass by. At 11 a.m. the dog 07-105 (June 20th ’07) came for removal of the stitches (see June 20th). Agreed for next Sunday for a good trimming. At 12 o’clock the announced cat was here > see at TOM-CAT. At 12.09 p.m. a phone-call from Mytiléne > will come with the coach of 1.15 p.m. And the bird was in our hands at 2 p.m. > see at SWIFT. At 3.50 p.m. a phone-call from Mólivos about a gull with a broken wing: only they were “too frightened for bird-flu” to catch him !! Told to throw a towel over the bird and send it to us by coach. So wait and see. At 4.20 p.m. a call they had the bird > they had arranged that the bird should be send by a Pullman-coach with tourists, because there were at that time of the day no coaches anymore. We had the bird at 5.23 p.m. in our hands > see further at YELLOW-LEGGED GULL.

WWF calls for clear forest plan

Rangers urged to be alert

July 7th:  the came-in as the last one from yesterday juvenile Yellow-legged Gull was discovered at 5.15 a.m. dead (already for hours !). Weights: bluesilver Hooded Crow 340 (+9) gram; red Barn Owl 378 (+5) gram. Jays: orange 130 (+4) and silver 118 (=) gram. At 12.30 p.m. a phone-call from a villager that he had discovered in the streets a hit-by-a-car Hedgehog > we picked it up in the village. See at EASTERN HEDGEHOG. At the same moment with our arrival a little SPURR-TIGHED TORTOISE was brought-in > see over there. The bearers had a tour around as well. And doing so, a dog was brought for a check-up after she was hit by her owner himself > checked and nothing special could be discovered > not in the statistics.

Fires on Pelion, Parnitha doused

July 8th: the for today announced dog for a good trimming was postponed due to personal problems of the owner. Weights: bluesilver Hooded Crow 343 (+3) gram. Red Barn Owl 383 9=60 gram. Jays: orange 130 (=) and silver 122 (+4) gram. Little Owls: red 202 (+2), silver 199 (+1), green 192 (+4), blue 188 (=) and orange 184 (-5) gram. Redred 192 (+4), silversilver 187 (-1), blueblue 184 (=) and orangeorange 161 (+2) gram. The green Barn Owl, transferred to “The Keep” July 6th , had gained weight in 2 days quite well > so is eating on his own (and good !). At the end of the morning 4 Dutch visitors. It seems that our Short-eared Owl (06-211; October 13th ’06) doesn’t belief in it any more (or is it the heat ??). Already 2 days all the given food was vomited.

July 9th: we discovered a juvenile Swift (07-128; July 6th ’07) this morning dead in the cage. Weights: we don’t measure the Hooded Crows anymore. Jays: orange 142 (+12) and silver 122 (=). Red Barn Owl 387 (+9). Little Owls: red 202 (=), silver 201 (+2), orange 192 (+8) and green 192 (=). Blue 189 (+1) gram. Redred 192 (=), silversilver 191 (+4), blueblue 190 (+6) and orangeorange 163 (+2) gram. We transferred to the pigeon-cage in “The Keep” Pigeon 07-111 (June 25th ’07) for flying-practice. To the Aviary are transferred the juvenile Collared Dove (07-120; July 3rd ’07) and the juvenile Pigeon with pigeon-canker (07-098; June 16th ’07), both for flying-practices. The juvenile Collared Dove we had to take back after some hours > was begging a lot at adult ones of the same kind, and they didn’t appreciate that so much. We had to take back the Short-eared Owl from “The Keep” > was laying on its back and was evidently close to . . . . !! We received a “delegation” from Tilburg in Holland, of whom the two daughters had been busy in school and in the neighborhood to promote our work > see picture !!

After the siesta the Short-eared Owl refused even to drink and at 5.10 we discovered him dead. Around 6 p.m. a villager came with his dog which had one very red eye > checked, but no strange objects could be discovered > Garamycine-eye-drops were given. Not in the statistics. At 7.40 p.m. a phone-call from the “Kantína” near the Salt-pans that there was over there a gull with a broken wing > with a 2-headed-crew we went to there and picked-up a quite bity creature > see further at YELLOW-LEGGED GULL.

July 10th:  no other victims this morning. Weights: red Barn Owl 386 (-1); Jays: orange 130 (-12), silver 125 (+3). Little Owls: red 205 (+3), silver 202 (+1), green 195 (+3), orange 191 (-1) and blue 188 (-1) gram. Redred 193 (+1), blueblue 189 (-1), silversilver 189 (-2) and orangeorange 169 (+6) gram. Today was “meat-cutting-day” and for the first time here our successors to be could “risk their fingers” with 12,145 kilo of meat, liver & minced-meat (for 81.40 Euro). Total this year 325,965 kilo for 2068,74 Euro. In the House-next-door we could partially do a part of the floor-covering in the room for the trainees. During the morning-hours a Dutch family came to visit us. More than half of Greece (and so do we) is suffering from a interference on the Internet, so we can’t log-in over there but as well we can’t receive E-mails. And this already since yesterday-morning !! The Greek Telephone-Cy OTE knows from the problem, but doesn’t know why nor when it should be finished . . . .  It seems of the last Yellow-legged Gull has as well a leg-problem: is standing with difficulties and is tumbling. It seems to be the right leg > on this one he/she isn’t standing well. Yellow-legged Gull nr 1 has spend half the day in the former cage of the Short-eared Owl > has eaten over here pretty well till well. The splint isn’t yet removed.

July 11th: Jays: orange 135 (+5), silver 126 (+1). Red Barn Owl 387 (+1). Little Owls: red 207 (+2), silver 205 (+3), green 195 (=), orange 195 (+4) and Blue 195 (+7). Blueblue 195 (+6), silversilver 193 (+4), redred 193 (=) and orangeorange 176 (-2). At 11 o’clock the room for the trainees had its complete floor-covering and was again furnished > this was done together with Axel. The problems with the Greek Server are still not yet solved: at the moment there are 56 messages which are “stamping” to come through, but nothing can pass. It should be solved today, because there was “only” something damaged in a hard-disk of ADSL, the OTE could tell us, but . . . . it’s Greece here, so . . . . !!

July 12th:  at last last night the ADSL-problem should be solved (according to the OTE) and so we had this morning . . . . still no Internet neither E-mail !! Weights: red Barn Owl 393 (+6); Jays: orange 137 (+2) and silver 127 (+1). Little Owls: red 208 (+1), green 198 (+3), orange and blue both 195 (both =) and silver 193 (-12). Silversilver 194 (+1), redred 193 (=), blueblue 192 (-3) and orangeorange 175 (+8) gram.

Release:

We have released well the juvenile Swift 07-118, which had arrived over here June 29th from Mória > was flying very well.

In the House-next-door we first started with the replacement of a part of the wooden floor, which was rotten due to incoming rain, whereafter the floor was prepared for the floor-covering. At 9.50 a.m. a phone-call from Plomári that over there a tame (?? Probably mal-nourished !) Bird of prey was sitting on top of a canary-cage > shouldn’t be possible to catch the bird. Advices were given how to catch the bird, because we’re only turning out when the bird is in a box > it’s too far from here. At 12.35 p.m. we had access again to the Internet etc. and 101 mails came in !!

Three firemen killed, one hurt in Cretan blaze

Victims trapped due to changing wind

ANA

Rescue workers carry the body of one of the three firefighters killed yesterday while battling a blaze outside Rethymnon, Crete. In what local officials had described as being a low-danger fire, the three men were trapped by the blaze after a sudden change in wind direction. A fourth firefighter is in the hospital with serious burns.

At 6.22 p.m. a phone-call from the Agorá in our village that a cat was lying over there, after been hit by a car > told that they had to bring the animal. And so we discovered the cat in a plastic bag (without warning us) at 7.24 p.m., when people arrived with a juvenile Hoopoe > so see at TOM CAT and at HOOPOE.

June 13th:  we discovered 2 juvenile Swifts dead in the cage: 07-123 (July 5th) and 07-126 (July 6th). The other patients were still alive. Body-weights: red Barn Owl 389 (-4); Jays: orange 234 (-3) and silver 128 (+1). Little Owls: red 211 (+3), silver 210 (+17), green 200 (+2), orange 198 (+3) and blue 194 (-1). Redred 198 (+5), blueblue 197 (+5), silversilver 197 (+3) and orangeorange 177 (+2). The new juvenile Hoopoe was 36 (=) gram.

Release:

We have released for the 2nd time the juvenile Swift (07-117; June 28th ’07), which we had released before July 2nd and which was discovered in the streets July 3rd in the early morning hours. We have no Swifts anymore now.

We had to read in the newspapers that from the end of this month we can expect “water-stops”; so this will mean rationing !!

At 11 a.m. the hall on the first floor of the House-next-door had the floor-covering. Did the (dirty-??)white Tom-cat from July 11th had at intake a complete lamed rear-part, this afternoon there was force and movement in the left rear-leg and there was a beginning of washing the private parts. After 6 p.m. 3 visitors from Kriens, Switzerland. At 8.30 p.m. a phone-call from the Vet-practice of Myrsíni Tourvalí about a real very tiny little pigeon > wait and see if it’s still alive tomorrow.

July 14th:  both juvenile Hooded Crows are transferred to the crow-aviary in the court-yard of the House-next-door. The hit-by-a-car-Tom-Cat has strength in both legs; is able to walk a very little bit, but is showing pain. Body-weights: red Barn Owl 380 (-9); Jays: orange 139 (+5) and silver 125 (+5). Little Owls: red 211 (=), silver 207 (-3), blue 199 (+5), green 198 (-2), orange 196 (-2). Redred 199 (+1), blueblue and silversilver both 197 (and both =) and orangeorange 176 (-1) gram. The juvenile Hoopoe was 41 gram (+5), but that one was fed every 90 minutes !! We removed the splint from the wing of Yellow-legged Gull I; the position of the wing is OK. This morning 4 Dutch visitors. We received a phone-call that the tiny pigeon was still alive and should be send by the coach of 11 o’clock. During the collecting of this birdie, we made a misstep and a real loud “crack” could be heard (and felt !!) > metatarsus !! It was real “lousy” driving back to base !! For the birdie see at PIGEON. Hereafter with the fractured foot again with the car to the First-Aidstation in Kalloní, over where (even without an X-ray) our diagnosis was confirmed: fracture of the metatarsus V right foot. With a temporarily plaster again by car back home and Monday back for X-rays. All feeding-rounds had been taken over meanwhile (almost without problems) by the home-front. At 1.15 p.m. we discovered our last Quail moribund in the Aviary > was the heat at last fatal for the bold little head ??

Skiathos fire razes big tract of forest

A large fire on Skiathos, which has ravaged some 2,000 hectares of forestland and burnt homes on the island since it broke out on Thursday morning, was partly under control last night. Firemen remained on standby as high winds fueled fears that the blaze would rekindle. Municipal authorities on the island, which yesterday remained on high alert, said the blaze was the work of arsonists. Residents said it had started at an illegal landfill.

Another fire on the island of Lesvos was curbed before it caused widespread damage.

The Quail was discovered dead at 8 p.m. The little Pigeon was at that time already almost “gone”.

July 15th:  at 5.10 a.m. the tiny Pigeon was still alive, but not anymore at 5.35 a.m. Weights: red Barn Owl 389 (+9); Jays: orange 138 (-1) and silver 129 (+4). Little Owls: red 216 (+5), silver 204 (-3), green 198 (=), orange 197 (+1) and blue 193 (-6). Redred 199 (=), blueblue 199 (+2), silversilver 197 (=) and orangeorange 181 (+5). The juvenile Hoopoe was 49 (+8) gram. The hit-by-a-car-Tom-Cat had used the litter-box last night for the first time !! In spite of the very warm weather we had an unannounced black-out on the whole island from 11.43 a.m. till towards 2 p.m. !! Around 7 p.m. came a puppy, which should go to Holland > we have removed ticks and cleaned ears. Not in the statistics. We started to feed our population juvenile Little Owls less to force them to eat on their own.

July 16th:  red Barn Owl 384 (-5) gram. Jays: orange 140 (+2), silver 125 (-4) gram. The Little Owls: red 203 (-13), silver 197 (-7), green 191 (-7), orange 190 (-7) and blue 186 (-7) gram. Redred 195 (-4), blueblue 195 (-4), silversilver 191 (-6) and orangeorange 182 (+1) gram. The Hoopoe was 47 (-2) gram. And while our “ambulance-man”, after x-rays of the foot (indeed, a classical fracture), received a perfect fitting plaster till the knee, on base meat was processed: 11,655 kilo for 77,73 Euro. Total this year 337,620 kilo for 2146,47 Euro. In the afternoon is coming the woman, who had brought July 7th the little Tortoise, with a cat probably having a fungus-infection. And again a phone-call from that German woman who a.o. hat phoned us about that bird-of-prey, sitting on a canary-cage and impossible to catch > now she was talking about a swallow with pneumonia . . . . !! We’re only waiting now for a “emergency-call” about a grass-hopper, which should have laser-treated its retina . . . . !! At 12.10 p.m. a phone-call from Mytiléne about a juvenile Goldfinch. Will be send by coach of 1.15 p.m. A Dutch couple, she a Vet, came to visit us > we made some good contacts for the future. Son-in-law Ron used the ambulance to bring our “white-footed-man” to the petrol-station to pick-up the little Goldfinch > see at GOLDFINCH. And we were just trying to enjoy the siesta (a bit too late), when there was knocking at the door: a BARN OWL > see over there (ring-color purple).

Wind whips up brush fires

Firefighters combat more than 100 blazes as gales blow across Greece

Earlier in the day, firemen had managed to put out a blaze on the island of Lesvos and near the Spathovounio toll station on the Corinth-Tripolis national road.

After the siesta came the announced cat (was treated over here in the past for a pneumonia and was neutered) > no fungus-infection, but a (partly) complete felted skin, which was very painful. He couldn’t be treated without thick leather gloves > referred to the Vet Myrsíni Tourvali. Hereafter 2 Dutch visitors.

July 17th:  we discovered the juvenile Goldfinch dead at 5.35 a.m.  Body-weights: red Barn Owls 385 (+1), the new purple 307 (+27) gram. Little Owls: red 202 (-1), silver 197 (=), blue 190 (+4), green 189 (-3) and orange 186 (-4) gram. Blueblue was 194 (-1), redred 192 (-3), silversilver 190 (-1) and orange 183 (+1) gram. The hoopoe was 49 (+2) gram. At 8.20 a.m. left our son-in-law in the direction of the Airport, over where Ineke could pick-up 2 Dutch people: 1 trainee and 1 volunteer. And they were here at 11.15 a.m.: Jelmer Palmer (volunteer) and Elske de Jong (trainee). After the siesta 5 British visitors: 2 from Pétra and 3 from Blackpool.

Hymettus blaze curbed after nearing homes

Eastern Athens threatened by fire

Simela Pantzartzi/ANA

Water-dropping aircraft yesterday attempt to extinguish a fire that broke out at the foot of Mount Hymettus, eastern Athens. The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear but police are investigating the possibility of arson after witnesses said they saw several fires start at once.

A forest fire that broke out early yesterday afternoon at the foot of Mount Hymettus, in eastern Athens, was contained after threatening several houses, a children’s home and a military base. No injuries or damage to buildings was reported.

During their efforts to contain the blaze, firefighters discovered a weapons cache which had been hidden in the forest. The cache included a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a hand grenade, a shotgun and several rounds of ammunition. Police could not say where the weapons had come from or who may have hidden them.

July 18th:  the knocked-down tom-cat is using his rear-legs more and more !! Weights: red Barn Owl 379 (-6), purple 319 (+12). Jays: orange 138 (=), silver 129 (-1). Little Owls : red 203 (+1), silver 193 (-4), orange 189 (+3), green 187 (-1) and blue 186 (-4) gram. Redred 193 (+1), blueblue 193 (-1), silversilver 188 (-1) and orangeorange 186 (+3) gram. The Hoopoe was 52 (+3) gram. In the morning 6 Dutch visitors.

Fires threaten ancient site, Athens homes

Blazes rage near Corinth, Vrilissia

VASSILIS PSOMAS/ANA

Flames are seen approaching the medieval Acrocorinth castle yesterday after a brushfire broke out nearby. The fire damaged part of the fortress, forcing visitors to flee. The acropolis on which the castle is built overlooks the ancient city of Corinth. It was fortified during the Byzantine era.

“The destruction on Monday was as little as we could have hoped for,” said Ilioupolis Mayor Yiannis Anagnostou. Two larger fires in 1995 and 1998 led to some 700 hectares of forest being destroyed in the same area.

July 19th:  body-weights: red Barn Owl 383 (+4) and purple 321 (+2) gram. Jays: orange 135 (-3) and silver 127 (-2) gram. However, both birds had spend the whole day yesterday in a huge aviary and had taken a bath several times. Little Owls: red 202 (-2), silver 195 (+2), green 189 (+2), blue 187 (+1) and orange 187 (-2) gram. Blueblue 194 (+1), redred 193 (=), silversilver 189 (=) and orangeorange 185 (-1) gram. The Hoopoe was 56 (+4) gram. The plaster-leg of one of us is changed meanwhile for a make-shift, which is even better protecting, but which makes walking a bit more easy; quite a relief !! We received 4 Dutch visitors. At 12.30 p.m. the trainee and the volunteer left; reason ?? Home-sick, no Dutch products were available over here and continuing to look with Dutch eyes and ideas to a complete different situation in another country.

Second heat wave threatens

More fires fuel arson fears

One has informed us via the village-loudspeaker-system that we’ll be from 8.30 p.m. this evening without electricity . . . . !! At 1.25 p.m. a phone-call from Metóchia (close to Kalloní) that a young fox was causing problems over there (eating birds etc.) > one is going to try to catch the animal. And at 1.50 p.m. a phone-call from Pétra from the Vet Jóta, that a probably juvenile Moorhen was over there, but that the bird was difficult to catch > so we’ll wait and see in this case as well. At 3.57 p.m. a phone-call from the cigarette-shop in our village, that they had found over there a birdie, but that they couldn’t leave the shop > grand-son Axel was send to pick-up the bird. See further at HOUSE MARTIN. And when a power-cut was ANNOUNCED . . . . it didn’t happen !!

July 20th:  all patients were still alive this morning. Body-weights: red Barn Owl 379 (=4) and purple 322 (+1). Jays: orange 137 (+2) and silver 129 (+2). Little Owls: red 202 (+1), silver 193 (-2), orange 189 (=), blue 188 (+1) and green 188 (-1). Blueblue was 192 (-2), redred 191 (-2), silversilver 189 (+1) and orangeorange 188 (+3) gram. The juvenile Hoopoe was 58 (+2) gram. During the morning-hours three female Dutch visitors.

Corinth blaze burns homes in its path

Wildfire rages for a third day

Vassilis Psomas/ANA

Firefighters attempt to douse a blaze near Corinth that continued to burn for a third day yesterday. The blaze, which has burned hundreds of hectares of forest and farmland as well as farmhouses, prompted the evacuation of a monastery and a children’s camp. A state of emergency was declared in three local municipalities.

And the mercury reached over here the 37 Centigrade in the shadow !!

July 21st:  the yesterday (for the 2nd time) transferred to the Aviary juvenile Collared Dove (07-120; July 3rd) is doing fine there now and isn’t pecked any more. So is doing the, (as well yesterday) transferred from the Aviary to the pigeon-cage in “The Keep”, juvenile Pigeon with the canker (07-098; June 16th): isn’t “begging” anymore and so isn’t pecked as well. Body-weights: red Barn Owl 379 (=), purple 321 (-1). Jays: orange 136 (-1) and silver 130 (+1). Little Owls: red 200 (-2), silver 191 (-2), green 187 (-1), orange 184 (-5) and blue 181 (-7). Blueblue 193 (+1), redred 191 (=), orangeorange 190 (+2) and silversilver 188 (-1). The juvenile Hoopoe was 58 (=) gram. Because we have to re-organize several rooms in the House-next-door, we have been busy in the “apothíki” (storage-room) over there. There were 8 of those huge “Alibaba-jugs”

in which indeed easily a robber could hide himself. Two of those still had ancient olive-oil “on board” > we had to remove 3 full buckets of those stinky thick fluid !! Six of them will be removed next Tuesday and Wednesday; one will stay “in loco” as a memento and the last will have a new place as a huge plant-box in the hall of the 2nd floor over there.

HEAT WAVE BEGINS

Temperature to hit 39C today and rise 1C every day until Wednesday

Danger still high as forest fires ease

July 22nd:  body-weights were: red Barn Owl 380 (+1), purple 320 (-1). Jays: orange 135 (-1), silver 126 (-4). Little Owls : red 201 (+1), silver 193 (+2), orange 188 (+4), green 188 (+1), blue 187 (+6) gram. Blueblue 193 (=), orangeorange 191 (+1), redred 188 (-3) and silversilver 188 (=) gram. The juvenile Hoopoe was 60 (=) gram. During the weekly cleaning of the water-bowls in “The Keep” we could “harvest” lots of cockroaches, which were eaten with taste by the juvenile Hoopoe. Just after the siesta 2 Dutch visitors. At 4.45 p.m. on the whole island the electricity disappeared, to come back scanty measure after one hour: enough for the TV, but unfortunately not enough for the fans. And with an air-temperature of 36 Centigrade we should have wished it was the other way round . . . . !! Only at 6.48 p.m. there was enough electricity for the computer and as well (but still not enough) for the fans.

July 23rd:  red Barn Owl 373 (-7) and purple 332 (+12) gram. Jays: orange 137 (+2) and silver 129 (+3); both birds are meanwhile eating on their own. Little Owls: red 202 (+1), silver 193 (=), green 185 (-3), orange 184 (-4) and blue 182 (-5). Orangeorange 192 (+1), blueblue 192 (-1), redred 190 (+2) and silversilver 187 (-1) gram. The juvenile Hoopoe was 62 (+2) gram. Today was “meat-cutting-day” again and with the help of a friend of us, who offered up a whole morning of het holiday to help us, 10,995 kilo of meat, liver & minced-meat was processed (price 73,25 Euro). Total this year now 348,575 kilo for 2219,72 Euro. Meanwhile 2 Dutch visitors. At 10.10 a.m. a phone-call from Mólivos about a gull > will be send by coach of 3.30 p.m. from there. Hereafter again 2 Dutch visitors. At 11.50 a.m. there was a power-cut again, which lasted till 1.45 p.m. The air-temperature in the shadow reached the 38 degrees Centigrade today !!

60 fires burn across country

More than 60 fires burned across Greece over the weekend as temperatures remained high, prompting authorities to issue another fire warning for today. Authorities said most of the fires had been contained or brought partially under control. There were no reports of homes being threatened.

The hot weather is expected to continue this week, with the temperature hitting 43 Celsius by Wednesday.

At 4.22 p.m. we picked-up a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull from the coach > see further over there. Just hereafter we received 3 Dutch visitors. At 9.45 p.m. a phone-call from Mólivos about a young sparrow > first one only wanted advices, but maybe the birdie will be brought. And at 10.23 p.m. a phone-call from Loutrá about a fox-cub, which shouldn’t be in such a good condition . we’ll contact them tomorrow early in the morning to know if we have to turn out or not.

July 24th:  red Barn Owl 365 (-8) and purple 343 (+11). Hoopoe 60 (-2) but was hardly measurable. The other birds won’t be measured anymore. After all jobs were re-arranged and space was made (so the Tom-Cat with the spinal-jury was transferred to the House-next-door for further revalidation), was the announced fox-cub picked-up in Skála Loutrón > was at 7.59 a.m. in our possession. See further at DOG-FOX. There was announced by the village-loudspeaker-system that we’ll have two power-cuts today: one from 11 till 12 o’clock and the 2nd from 7 p.m. till 8 p.m. Six Dutch visitors. As well all removable “Alibaba-jugs” were brought outside (except the biggest one, because that one couldn’t pass through the door !!) and partly carried off.

Two pilots die battling fire on Evia

Airplane crashes into mountainside

THANASSIS STAVRAKIS/AP

A firefighting airplane circles over the area of Styra on the island of Evia as the sun sets yesterday. A similar Canadair aircraft with a crew of two on board crashed into a mountain earlier in the day. Both pilots were killed. Hundreds of residents were evacuated from villages and resorts in the area as the fire continued to burn last night.

And the air-temperature in the shadow reached the 42 degrees Centigrade today !!

July 25th:  and the temperature in the night fell till . . . . 32 degrees Centigrade !! We heard that the Tom-cat with the spinal-injury, which was transferred to the House-next-door yesterday, is now already jumping on the beds !! All new patients were still alive and the little Dog-fox had eaten very well. The red Barn Owl was 364 (-1) and the purple 336 (-7) gram. The Hoopoe remained the same at 60 gram. Feeding the tortoises we discovered that the heat had made another victim (and that is spite of the everlasting care of Axel for those animals): one hatched in the L.W.H. had turned around in a hollow in the sand and had been unable to turn around . . . .  We have transferred both juvenile Barn Owls (red: 07-080; May 31st, and purple: 07-137; July 16th) to the barn owl-cage in “The Keep” for flying-practices and eating better on their own. There was announced again a power-cut from 10.30 a.m. till 12 o’clock.

Releases:

We have released in Kalloní as disabled ones both adult Yellow-legged Gulls (07-122; July 4th and 07-132; July 9th). There is enough food and water in the Gomateríe over there.

At 10.35 a.m. a phone-call from Mólivos about a juvenile Collared Dove, but one was too nuts stretching more than one finger, so . . . . ?? And at 10.47 a.m. a phone-call from the dame town about a juvenile hooded Crow > will came (maybe ??) for wildering. And the announced power-cut came this time, only a lot later. And while the temperature outside in the shadow reached the 41 Centigrade-mark, we could hardly hold out inside . . !!

All dogs and cats are trying to find a cooler place on the tiles downstairs.

Power cuts in north as Greece feels the heat

Problems in Balkans cause outages

At 14.17 p.m. a phone-call from Joeri (from the Shelter on Sámos) that he had in his care an injured Goshawk, which was very weak as well > he’ll try to send the bird tomorrow by ferry. And unexpected we had a power-cut again, which lasted from 5.43 till 7.40 p.m. > we have looked for some cooling outside in the streets, because over there was some wind. We received the message that the juvenile Hooded Crow will be brought-in tomorrow. In vain we tried to release the juvenile House Martin > could hardly fly !!

July 26th:  the Dog-fox is eating well and is trying to bite as well too > so a good omen. The juvenile Hoopoe was unchanged 60 gram.

Releases:

At 6.15 a.m. we have released in the deserted house the blue-, and the silver Little Owl (07-072; May 21st).

A fat rat, which had been trying to enter the Aviary via the trunk of the vine, was awarded for his efforts with “air-conditioning” and was promoted into fox-fodder. At 8.58 a.m. a phone-call from Mesótopos about a juvenile Goldfinch, which one had tried to suckle > so problems now !! Advised to send the bird by coach, but that’s quite difficult from that village !! The juvenile House Martin has lost faith after yesterday and is refusing to eat, so . . . !!

Hundreds flee as wildfires wreak havoc

Peloponnese, Cephalonia worst hit

ANA

Flames approach a church in the village of Kounina in the northern Peloponnese as wildfires raged through the area of Aigion yesterday, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of locals. A 75-year-old man was killed and a number of homes were destroyed by the fire. A total of 197 wildfires were reported throughout Greece yesterday.

Summer deaths rise, smog thickens

There was announced that we’ll be tonight in between 10 and 11 again without electricity . . . . !! We received 5 Dutch visitors. Meanwhile the announced juvenile HOODED CROW was brought-in > indeed: much to tame !! See further over there. The bearers received a tour-around as well. And while we were busy with that tour, a phone-call from the Agrotikí Stégi came: they had over there 2 juvenile birds > so we went for a ride. See further at COLLARED DOVE. And in spite of the warning, UNANNOUNCED the electricity collapsed from 1.45 till 2.37 p.m. !! We discovered the juvenile House Martin at 5.20 p.m. dead in its cage. Our little Dog-fox saw his chance and escaped from his cage; “re-building” the whole sick-bay > transferred to the fox-cage in “The Keep”. At 10.55 p.m. there was picked-up from the ferry from Sámos a LONG-LEGGED BUZZARD > see over there. And the announced power-cut . . . . . didn’t happen !!

July 27th:  the Long-legged Buzzard was still alive, but the juvenile Yellow-legged Gull not any more. The little Dog-fox had eaten well in his new cage. The Hoopoe had diminished with 2 gram and was 58 gram. We have transferred the juvenile hooded Crow from yesterday to the crow-aviary in the court-yard of the House-next-door. Taken-in was an AFRICAN GREY PARROT from one of the butchers in our village > see over there. Six Dutch visitors. And again a power-cut was announced; this time from 2.30 till 3.30 p.m. We’ll wait and see . . !

And the power-cut came indeed, only not on the announced time: from 1.45 till 3.30 p.m. It looks like the Long-legged Buzzard is a “heat-victim”: is vomiting all the given food. So now only Ringers-solution with Dextrose hoping for . . . ?? By the way, it’s a female we heard from Holland. She was still alive at 9.10 p.m.

Fire claims more lives and homes

Bodies of two elderly women found near Aigion; tens of houses destroyed by continuing blazes

EUROKINISI

The charred remains of a house in a village near the town of Aigion in the northern Peloponnese are seen yesterday as wildfires raged in the area for a fourth day. Hundreds of villagers returned to their homes yesterday, while residents of more than 40 communities in the area had to flee their properties as the fires approached.

With the country’s ground and air force resources stretched, Karamanlis called on Russia for assistance. Sources said that Karamanlis called Russian President Vladimir Putin for equipment that can help extinguish the fires. Shortly after the request was made, Putin agreed to send three water-dropping airplanes and two helicopters, sources added.

July 28th:  we discovered the Long-legged Buzzard dead in her cage at 5 a.m. . . . !! The Hoopoe was 59 (+1) gram and is starting to eat on it’s own. The African Grey Parrot is starting whistling and talking again.

Fires continue to rage across the country

Team of ministers to assess damage

PANTELIS SAITAS/ANA

Green shoots have appeared in the burnt forest on Mount Parnitha, north of Athens. Environment Minister Giorgos Siouflas visited the area yesterday to oversee work being done to help prevent flooding and soil erosion in the national park that was burnt last month.

Fires were also raging in the northern regions of Ioannina, Kastoria, Florina, Pieria and Kozani, as well as in the southern region of Messinia. Firefighters had trouble reaching two of the blazes in Ioannina and Kastoria because of land mines dating from World War II and the Greek Civil war over 60 years ago.

During the morning the largest (and only remaining) “Alibaba-jug” was digged-in in the floor and fastened with concrete. Hereafter we could fill the jug with a water-reserve of ± 200 liter. After the siesta 2 Dutch visitors. During the tour-around we discovered that the disabled Sparrow-hawk was stuck in a tree and was hanging on one leg. Freed and temporarily taken-in. Not in the statistics.

July 29th:  the disabled Sparrowhawk survived well the “adventure” of yesterday and was standing this morning again on both legs. We hope one day more of recovery will help her. But because she went “mad” in the little cage, she went back again in the morning-hours to the falcon-aviary. The Pigeon, which had come-in June 15th after having had a conflict with e.g. a rotating fan, and which had since missed one leg, is this morning for the 2nd time transferred to the pigeon-cage in “The Keep”. Now is standing possible and well flying as well; something which wasn’t yet possible June 30th. In the Morning 4 visitors: 1 Dutch and 3 from Charamída. The last three are going to try to make our website in Greek. At 11.40 a.m. a phone-call from 2 English women, on holiday in Pétra: they had discovered an injured TOM-CAT (see over there). Both ladies had specially rented a car to bring the cat over here, but got lost in the narrow streets of our village. Grandson Axel (in L.W.H.-shirt) was send to pick them up, because they continued to loose their way. With not yet 11 years old and quite a mouth-full of English he succeeded in piloting both ladies and the Tom-Cat into the L.W.H. And while we were busy stitching the cat together again, both ladies were shown some members of the owl-family. At 1.12 p.m. a phone-call from Pérama, that one had discovered over there a little swallow > they should come and bring the birdie. And they were over here at 5.12 p.m. with a juvenile HOUSE MARTIN > see over there.

July 30th: the little House Martin was still alive early this morning. The African Grey Parrot was saluting us with whistling and talking . . . !!

Releases:

We have released at 6.05 a.m. in the deserted house the red Little Owl (07-068; May 20th ’07) and the orange (07-072; May 21st ’07).

The juvenile House Martin was discovered dead at 9.45 a.m. Today again “meat-cutting-day” and together 11,570 kilo of meat, liver & minced meat (price 77,43 Euro) was processed. Total this year 350,145 kilo for 2297,15 Euro. In the basement of the House-next-door 2 of the holes in the floor, the “Alibaba-jugs” had been in, were flattened and filled with concrete. A phone-call came from the 2 English ladies with the Tom-cat from yesterday > it seems that there are some problems and they’ll come back with the cat. Three visitors from Cambridge (GB).

Fire strikes Attica again

Big effort needed to tame blaze near homes in northern Athens

The Fire Service said last night that it had managed to control a wildfire that broke out in the northern Athens suburb of Stamata yesterday before it reached homes and business premises.

For yet another weekend this summer, firefighters battled several blazes around Greece but the fire at Stamata caused particular concern because of its close proximity to houses.

More than 40 firefighters, 15 fire engines and four water-dropping airplanes were deployed in the operation to put out the blaze, which was fanned by strong winds that spread ash and smoke over other areas in the north of the city. According to initial estimates, the fire burned some 30 hectares of pine-covered land.

Some residents reported hearing three explosions before the fires started, prompting speculation that arsonists were responsible for the blaze.

Firefighters also brought under control a fire on the island of Salamina, near Piraeus, yesterday. An incendiary device was found in the Kaki Vigla area where the blaze began and authorities said they had detained a man on suspicion of arson.

Among the other fires reported yesterday were blazes on Mount Parnassos, central Greece, in Evros and Florina, northeastern Greece and near Ioannina, northwestern Greece.

The overstretched Fire Service was boosted by the arrival yesterday of the first of several aircraft pledged by Russia to help in the firefighting effort. The Beriev BE 200 amphibious aircraft can carry up to 12 tons of water. Two Russian helicopters were also expected to arrive in Greece last night.

Government ministers are expected today to visit the northern Peloponnese – one of the areas worst affected by wildfires – to begin assessing the damage caused to forests and properties in the area.

Over the weekend, the government pledged 1.3 million euros to Achaia Prefecture and municipalities hit by the fires that ravaged more than 30,000 hectares. People whose homes were damaged by the blazes will receive an immediate payment of 3,000 euros, while those whose houses were completely destroyed will receive a third of the cost to rebuild the property as a direct grant and the remainder can be repaid as a 15-year interest-free loan.

At 1.10 p.m. both (crying) English ladies were over here with the Tom-cat: they hadn’t been able to find someone who could take care of the cat and they were going back to England tomorrow. Decided to take-in the poor soul and to look is there should be any progress in the use of the legs or not. This during one week. If there is no improvement after that week, this will mean “end-of-exercise”. At 5.40 p.m. a phone-call from a Greek “lady” who informed us that beyond the airport a huge “eagle” was sitting, which was unable to fly or didn’t do so. She refused to give her name or phone-number, but required that we should turn out at once . . !! After we said, we had to make sure, she told us that she was not a liar, and that we didn’t love animals and hereafter she hung up . . . . !! To be sure, we informed the Dasarcheío; they as well had the opinion that for such a vague call it wasn’t necessary turning out (by the way, it’s more than 2 hours by car !!). At 6.30 p.m. a phone-call from Dimítris from the (new) Animal-lovers Society in mytilene, that they meanwhile had the bird in hands. However, they hadn’t the chance to bring him during the evening. At 7.25 p.m. again a phone-call about the bird: had eaten and drunk. Agreed that we’ll have contact tomorrow about how, when and the time.

July 31st:  the yesterday taken-in Tom-cat was still alive and had eaten and drunk well. However, droppings aren’t yet to be discovered. At 7.30 a.m. the whole floor of the Sick-bay was covered with (clear) urine; so thát is functioning in any case. For today a water-stop is announced, and as well a power-cut. The last we can expect tomorrow twice. We have heard that the bird-of-prey from Mytiléne is still alive and will be brought this afternoon; probably a Buzzard or Long-legged Buzzard. In the morning 8 Dutch visitors. At 1.10 p.m. we received a phone-call that the bird, which should be send by coach of 1.15 p.m., wasn’t alive anymore. A typical case of “heat-victim” c.q. “climate-change-victim”.

Apologies and aid for fire victims

The government apologized yesterday to victims of last week’s fires that devastated large tracts of Corinth, west of Athens, and promised to increase financial aid to the area to 1.5 million euros. Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos, who headed a meeting of ministers and senior government officials in Corinth, apologized on behalf of the government to those who suffered from the fire and said the state will stand beside them.

Authorities said the fire at Amaranto and Vathilako, near Ioannina in northwestern Greece, posed a particular threat as it was burning forestland that now covers old minefields.

In the evening at 7.10 p.m. a phone-call from Mytiléne about a (probably juvenile) Little Owl > if everything is going according to plan will be send by coach tomorrow. And at 7.55 p.m. a phone-call from Mólivos about a (as well probably a juvenile) Sparrow > we will be informed about this case tomorrow.

Total amount of visitors this month:  098                      (total this year: 337)

Kinds of animals who are mentioned like this were for the first time in treatment in the L.W.H.

Amount of kilometers (Animal-Ambulance) for bringing-in/releasing animals this month 440 (total this year 1753 kilometers)

Total amount of intakes this month: 29 [wild ones: 27; others 04], (total this year 162: wild ones 121, others 041; total since the start of registration in 1996: 3705) of which:

COLLARED DOVE (Streptopelia decacocto): 3; the first was a quite small juvenile from/via Mytiléne. The other two were about the same size and were brought-in via the Agrotikí Stégi

JAY (Garrulus glaudarius atricapullus): 2 juveniles from Mytiléne. Intake-weights 110 gram (silver) and 119 gram (orange).

YELLOW-LEGGED GULL (Larus cachinnans michael.): 4; the first was an adult from Mytiléne > open fracture radius/ulna left wing > splinted (see as well July 25th). The 2nd came from Mólivos > was send-in as “having a broken wing”, but there was no fracture. Only a thick bulb at the right elbow with hemorrhages (see as well July 7th). Number 3 came from close to the “Kantína” at the Salt-pans > evidently a fracture of the left wing, just below the shoulder. Splinted and local anti-biotics were given (see as well July 25th). Number 4 was a young juvenile (*2007) and was missing all tail-feathers. Huge feathers of both wings are quite damaged. Further everything seems to be OK (see as well July 25th).

SWIFT (apus apus): 3 juveniles from Mytiléne; the first observation brain-damage and function right wing. The 2nd came as well from Mytiléne, is almost full-grown: observation and as soon as possible back into the air. The 3rd was quite small and came as well from Mytiléne (see as well July 9th).

VIXEN (Vulpes vulpes): 1 half grown tiny animal from Eftaloú > probably hit by a car. Was discovered in a garden and had a broken spinal-cord with a lamed rear-part. On our way back to the L.W.H. she died. No P.M. was done.

LITTLE OWL (Athene noctua indigena): 1 juvenile from Parákoila: already 1 week in the possession of the bearer. Is evidently under the normal body-weight: 154 gram.

TOM CAT (Felis catus): 3; the first was a wild and biting species from Polichnítos. After an immense fight & struggle we had him almost “flat” (in spite of a huge dose of anesthetics), so we could remove a fish-hook from his mouth. That one broke into 2 pieces, so it was double difficult. The 2nd came from our village and was hit by a car > observation spinal-injury. Number 3 came from Pétra and was evidently hit by a car (but already some days ago). Huge injury under the chin, which was healing already. With 4 stitches this process was made a bit more easy. Further there was a luxation of the pelvis, due to which the right rear-leg stayed “behind. Because he was under a total anesthetic after all, we could remedy this luxation. Both ladies were told how to treat the cat. (see as well July 30th)

EASTERN HEDGEHOG (Erinaceus concolor roum.): 1 quite tiny female (* 2006), which was discovered somewhere in the streets around our village: had a huge hemorrhage under the left arm-pit (so is breathing quite difficult) and is over covered with ticks. Prognosis ??.

Was after intake at 7 p.m. still alive; was breathing more easily and not so lethargic any more. However; had produced black droppings (internal bleeding ??). Was at 9.25 p.m. all almost “gone” and wasn’t alive anymore at 9.54 p.m. P.M.: several hemorrhages on the thorax, belly and both knees > on the surface and not life-threatening. In de abdomen no blood was visible. Spleen was very colored and liver was de-colored. Urine-bladder quite well filled. Lungs dark pink but clear; at the arcus aortae a dark coloring. Intestines filled with black balls, almost straight from the stomach. In the stomach remnants of insects were found. The injuries due to the traffic weren’t primary life-threatening; more probably is a poisoning (one is busy again spraying the olive-groves) due to that no adequate actions were possible anymore. For this are revealing the strange colors of as well the spleen as the liver.

SPURR-TIGHED TORTOISE (Testudo graeca ibera): 1 quite young one (*2006). Was discovered in Mytiléne.

HOOPOE (Upupa epops): 1 juvenile, discovered close to the Kremásti-bridge > is nothing wrong, only too young. Bodyweight at intake was 36 gram.

PIGEON (Columba livia): 1 real very, very tiny one from Mytiléne > it’s the question if he/she will make it.

GOLDFINCH (Carduelis carduelis): 1 juvenile from Mytiléne > so trying to suckle.

BARN OWL (Tyto a. alba x Tyto a. guttata): 1 (almost ?) adult from the Mesa-Sanctuary > has closed fracture right wing (hand-part) > hanging cast was given. Body-weight 280 gram and that’s much too light.

(see as well July 25th).

HOUSE MARTIN (Delichon urbica) : 2; the first was a quite big juvenile from our village > was discovered in the streets. Victim of the gale winds ?? (see as well July 26th).The 2nd was a quite small and this juvenile from Pérama > in spite of a not so good prognosis, we’re going to give it a try. (see as well July 30th )

DOG FOX (Vulpes vulpes): 1 quite young creature, discovered July 24th in Skála Loutrón. Is walking in circles, so observation cerebral. The skin isn’t optimal, but further injuries couldn’t be discovered.

HOODED CROW (Corvus corone cornix sharpii): 1 juvenile from Mólivos. Was suckled over there by hand, so much to tame. Is eating on it’s own, but will need lots of time to become wild again.

LONG-LEGGED BUZZARD (Buteo rufinus): 1 from the island of Sámos; is bone- and bone-thin. Body-weight 695 gram. Lots of gluing weeds in the feathers.

The day after intake no injuries could be discovered, only some weeds were removed.

AFRICAN GREY PARROT (Psittacus erithracus): 1 quite young bird from our village here > is lodged in a butchers-shop where the airco is fully operational > so has a cold. Lincospectin will be given by injection during 1 week.
